'Conan the Conqueror' is a planned action-fantasy film featuring the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the title role. The actor confirmed the new film's active development saying that they already had a script ready and are actively seeking a director.
According to The Movie Network, Schwarzenegger confirmed the development of a new 'Conan' film and revealed it under the running title 'Conan the Conqueror'. The actor-turned-politician announced his intentions to return as the titular hero at an "Experience with Arnold Schwarzenegger" event in Edinburgh and Birmingham.
He said, "Conan the Conqueror... where I'm sitting on the throne for years and years - decades, and then all of the sudden, the time comes when they want to overthrow me. So that story WILL be told and that movie WILL be done."
Schwarzenegger starred in the 1982 fantasy film co-written and directed by John Millius. The film was based on the stories of pulp fiction writer Robert E. Howard about a barbarian's adventures in a pre-historic world ruled by mysticism and cruelty. The film, set in the Hyborian Age, focused on a young barbarian who was out to seek revenge for the murder of his parents.
At 68-year old, Schwarzenegger doesn't seem one to be weighed down by age. According to the Malay Mail Online, he said that one of the keys to staying fit and capable for a physically demanding role was to "train everyday".
He explained that his routine exercise regime included riding the bicycle and working out. He said, "...So I feel great and the last few movies that I've done, I've done many of my own stunts. I did all the physical stuff and it didn't wipe me out and I have plenty of energy and feel really terrific." He added that activities such as horseback riding and sword fighting will be absolutely doable.
It was previously announced that a script for 'Conan the Conqueror' was ready and that Schwarzenegger and other executives are already actively seeking a director to helm the third film in the cinematic series. According to Blastr, producer Frederick Malmberg admitted to meeting with potential directors with co-producer Chris Morgan.
