The Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware which was released back in September 2015 is now making its way to HTC handsets. The One M9 and One M8 are slated to obtain the firmware update while the One A9 has already started receiving the v6.0.1.
According to Gospel Herald, T-Mobile is now on its edge of delivering the official over the air (OTA) update release of Android 6.0 in Germany. Based on a post made by HTC UK, the company has promised that it will be starting the roll out of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to the One M8 as well as to the One M9 soon. The social networking post happened on January 19th, so it is safe to conclude that UK HTC One M8 users should have been enjoying their upgrade now.
There are also reports that have surfaced stating that it worked in the UK and Canada. When it comes to Germany, HTC has changed its target date to January 25th, but now there are predictions suggesting that it will probably be happening just sometime this week.
As for the One M9 and One M8 Marshmallow update status in the US, there is no specific release date stated yet. It is also strange that it should come to the M8 first, as normally the newest flagship, which would be the M9 in the case of HTC, is first in line.
MobiPicker reported that the HTC One M8 devices in India have started receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update via OTA. Users can now directly jump to the new Android version. The release of the firmware is gradual, so some users will have to wait for a few hours or a day before the update notification appears on their handset. But they could always manually check by going through Settings> About Phone> System Update.
Upon updating to Marshmallow, the users will see an increase in the software number to to 6.12.161.4 and it comes with the new Sense 7 UI. The software update brings new features like the app permissions, Doze, Android Pay, Google Now on Tap, and many more.
Aside from the HTC One M8 and One M9, Android Origin cited that HTC One M9+, One E9+, One A9, One ME, One E8, One M8 Eye, Butterfly 3, Desire 826, Desire 820 and Desire 816 are also slated to receive the firmware. There are no exact dates, however, as to when it will take place.
Meanwhile, the HTC One A9 unlocked version has started obtaining the latest Android 6.0.1 firmware upgrade last month in the US. The new version of Marshmallow brings new emojis from Unicode 8 and Unicode 7 and also several bug fixes. The Google Keyboard will also be modified and Google's December Security Update will be included.
HTC has promised that the company will roll out the Android M 90 days after the initial rollout. Though it seems to be late now, HTC will hopefully release the Marshmallow to all its users by early February.
