According to MovieWeb, director Dean Israelite plans to begin principal photography on the latest 'Power Rangers' theatrical reboot sometime in January. The filmmaker called the reimagining "a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material".
Israelite's new project is slated to hit cinemas in March 24, 2017 after being delayed a number of times. Five new industry newcomers have been cast as the iconic rangers including Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Becky G as the Yellow Ranger, RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger and Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger.
Meanwhile, according to the Independent, a former 'Power Rangers Wild Force' cast member was charged with the murder of his roommate. Ricardo Medina Jr. was first arrested for the alleged murder of Joshua Sutter on January 31, 2015 but was never charged due to lack of evidence and claims of self-defense.
However, he was re-arrested in January 14, 2016 and is facing a murder charge with a life sentence. Prosecutors are expected to ask for a bail to be set at $1 million.
Medina Jr. and Sutter shared a house together in Green Valley in Palmdale, California. According to US Magazine, the two had an argument over Medina Jr.'s girlfriend and eventually things turned physical. The actor proceeded to stab Sutter multiple times in the abdomen with a sword before the latter final succumbed to fatal wounds.
The 37-year old American actor is best known for his role as the Red Wild Force Ranger Cole Evans on 'Power Rangers Wild Force' that aired in 2002. He also appeared on other shows including 'ER', 'CSI: Miami' and 'Power Rangers Samurai'.
'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' is an upcoming remake of the popular children's television series that ran from 1993 to 1995. It is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 24, 2017. It will be directed by Dean Israelite and produced by Brian Casentini, Wyck Godfrey, Haim Saban and Allison Shearmur.
