Gene Hackman's final autopsy report shows that the actor hadn't eaten for some time before passing away in February.
The report attributed Hackman's February death to underlying health conditions, notably his history of congestive heart failure and "severe chronic hypertensive changes, kidneys," Fox News Digital reported. In 2019, Hackman had a "bi-ventricular pacemaker" placed.
"Remote myocardial infarctions were present involving the left ventricular free wall and the septum, which were significantly large. Examination of the brain showed microscopic findings of advanced stage Alzheimer's disease," adds a passage of the document.
The report also noted that the 95-year-old actor tested negative for hantavirus, the disease that killed his wife, Betsy Arakawa. They were both found dead by maintenance workers. Authorities believe Arakawa died on February 11, of hantavirus, about a week before Hackman's passing. "The cause of death for Mrs. Hackman is hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. The cause of death is natural," said New Mexico's chief medical examiner, Dr. Heather Jarrell.
Hackman tested negative for hantavirus but did show signs of prolonged fasting. TMZ noted the results of the autopsy were not surprising given that Arakawa was caring for Hackman, who was in poor health. After she died, Hackman was left without his caregiver for the last week of his life.
