Android 6.0 Marshmallow Custom ROM For Google Nexus 4 Now Available [How To Install]

By

Google Nexus 4 has originally been included in the list of devices that are not eligible for the Android 6.0 upgrade. Fortunately, a Marshmallow custom ROM has been made so users of the handset will have the opportunity to experience the newest firmware upgrade.

There are two ways of updating the Nexus 4 to Android M but according to The Voice, the best method would be to download the firmware that was developed by XDA's Adrian Holmes. The ROM is the most stable in the market as of the moment and it is designed specifically for the Nexus 4.

Knoxville Daily Sun cited the pre-requisites and things to remember before installing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow custom ROM to Nexus 4 handsets.

First, users have to perform a Nandroid backup for the data and settings in their device; for this custom recovery is needed. Aside from that, they have to get root access for their device and make sure there is enough battery that is at least 80 percent as the installation can be quite draining. They also have to take note that flashing a custom ROM for the handset effectively voids its warranty.

A straightforward way to get everything prepared for the installation is the Nexus Root Toolkit as it can unlock the bootloader, root the device, and obtain custom recovery.

The BitBag gave the step-by-step procedure of Marshmallow custom ROM installation to Nexus 4 devices. Users will start by transferring the TWRP file to the device and update/install it. Next, they will have to turn off their handset and switch it on to Recovery Mode by pressing Volume up + Volume Down + Power Button. Once the TWP UI loads up, they will have to choose Wipe then Factory Reset. Lastly, they have to transfer one of the ROM-Gapps into the Nexus 4 smartphone and reboot to enter Recovery Mode again.

Upon updating to Android 6.0 Marshmallow custom ROM, the LG Nexus 4 users will be seeing the status bar and quick toggles menus now fully colored white instead of the previous blue. The power menu has also been modified with some app icons that improves its style. The Google Now on Tap, Doze Mode and advanced app permissions are also included in the upgrade.

Since the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Nexus 4 is through custom ROM, users of this handset should keep in mind that trying to install the firmware requires knowledge in software installation. It does not only void its warranty but also put their devices at risk of getting bricked if not done successfully.
