The beta version of Marshmallow 6.0.1 has finally been released to Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, while Marshmallow 6.0 custom ROMs has also been made available for LG Nexus 4 handsets.
According to International Business Times, Samsung Electronics is working with selected number of beta testers of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in South Korea and the U.K. to test the Android 6.0 builds. New reports stated that it has already released the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow beta update for Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge users.
The Android 6.0.1 is just a minor upgrade but it features over 200 emojis and performance tweaks. In order to install the firmware upgrade, beta testers have to visit their smartphone's Settings > About device > Software update.
This update also improves the overall stability of the OS. It has an install overnight feature that makes it probable to create time frame for the download and installation of software updates during the sleeping hours of user at night. The Android 6.01 also brings enhancements to the Edge panels making it easier to use. It has a checkbox alongside each panel for enabling and disabling easily. The Tasks panel is noted to be more modifiable than before.
Samsung also made adjustments with the page scrolling speed and it has been done to let the processor of the device have more time to calculate and show the remaining elements of the page. This basically helps in eliminating problems such as lags and stutters while scrolling a page.
Aside from the Android 6.0.1 update from Samsung devices, Neurogadget stated that great news has been delivered for LG Nexus 4 owners. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow custom ROM has been released for this handset but it can't be officially updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
With the help of some developers, two custom Android 6.0 ROMs have been released for the Nexus 4. The first one was released by Aldrin Holmes and the other one by Dmitry Grinberg. However, users of the device will need to manually download the custom ROMs on their computer, transfer the zip files, wipe the device and install the custom ROM by themself.
Meanwhile, other LG devices that are eligible for the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update include the unlocked LG V10, LG G4, LG G3 and LG G Stylo. These devices have already obtained the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update. It is also reported that the LG Flex 2 is expected to get the new firmware update.
The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is just a minor upgrade to the original software, and the only devices that have obtained it as of the moment are Google LG Nexus 5 and LG Nexus 5X.
