'Doctor Strange' is an upcoming fantasy-adventure film based on the Marvel character of the same name. Mads Mikkelsen of 'Hannibal' fame plays an unnamed evil sorcerer opposite Benedict Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme.
According to Business Standard, Mikkelsen is set to play an evil sorcerer opposite Benedict Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme. He has been confirmed as one of the villains besides Chiwetel Ejiofor's antagonistic Baron Mordo.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hinted, "Mads' character is a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect. (He) believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through." Although Mikkelsen's character is yet unnamed, it was reported by Moviepilot that his villainous sorcerer believes that demonic forces are essential to ruling the realm instead of keeping them out.
The 50-year old Danish actor rose to international fame for his portrayal of Tristan in Jerry Bruckheimer's 2004 release 'King Arthur'. He was then cast in the 21st James Bond film 'Casino Royale' as the antagonistic Le Chiffre. He eventually went on to star as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the critically acclaimed television series 'Hannibal'.
It was reported by Comic Book Resources that the Dark Dimension will feature strongly in the upcoming standalone Marvel film.
Feige said, "We see glimpses of something called the Dark Dimension... If you were to open a 'Doctor Strange' comic drawn by Steve Ditko, you would see the Dark Dimension is, in fact, very colorful in an extremely psychedelic way. Those are the things we're not shying away from."
He added that 'Doctor Strange' will tackle darker forces never before seen in other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
'Doctor Strange' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film based on the character of the same name from the Marvel comic books. It is intended as the 14th installment in the MCU and is scheduled to premiere on November 4, 2016. The upcoming film is directed by Scott Derrickson based on a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, C. Robert Cargill, Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.
