'Blade Runner 2' is a planned science-fiction film intended as a sequel to Ridley Scott's film of the same name. Ryan Gosling called the follow-up a "dream project" and expressed his enthusiasm with working with Denis Villeneuve. The director also admitted that he hesitated before agreeing to get involved in the sequel.
According to Cosmic Book News, Gosling will star in the upcoming follow-up to Ridley Scott's 1982 neo-noir cult classic. He expressed his enthusiasm over getting involved in the second film admitting that he was always a huge fan of the original, of Ridley Scott, and of Harrison Ford, and Roger Deakins.
He said, "It's a dream project... to work with Denis Villeneuve, who I'm a huge fan of as well... on extending that story - and it is an extension of that story, it is a really interesting extension of that story and the world - is a dream. I'm very excited. The original's an incredible film, it's an amazing world, it's the reason so many people have borrowed from it, and it's exciting to actually be able to go into that world."
Gosling's role in the new film is yet unknown but he will be working under the direction of Villeneuve of 'Sicario' fame. Harrison Ford, who played the iconic Rick Deckard, is slated to reprise his role as well.
According to Collider, Villeneuve said, "To be very honest with you, Harrison was part of the project before I arrived. He was attached to the project right from the start with Ridley. I met him and he's honestly one of the nicest human beings I've met and is one of my favorite actors of all time, so for me it's a lot of pleasure."
The French-Canadian filmmaker admitted to being hesitant of getting involved with the new project at first. He said that he was always a fan growing up and to have an opportunity to expand the Blade Runner universe was quite overwhelming. He eventually yielded after he was presented the screenplay saying that Scott, Hampton Fancher and Michael Green "did a fantastic job".
He also hinted that the follow-up will attempt to answer the mysteries left behind by the first 'Blade Runner' film, according to Cinema Blend. He said, "The thing I must say is that I love mystery. I love shadows. I love doubts. I would just want to say to the fans that we will take care of that mystery. I will take care of it."
