The year 2016 is poised to have the biggest film lineups, new releases, live-action superhero adaptations and reboots alike. The preceding year premiered blockbuster hits including Alejandro G. Innaritu's 'Birdman', Ava DuVernay's 'Selma', Damien Chazelle's 'Whiplash', Isao Takahata's 'The Tale of Princess Kaguya' and George Miller's 'Mad Max: Fury Road'.
According to Rolling Stone, some of the year's biggest entries will premiere early in 2016. The Coen Brothers' 'Hail, Caesar!' starring George Clooney and Scarlett Johansson makes a splash on February 5. 'Zoolander 2' will feature the return of director-actor Ben Stiller on February 12/ Glenn Ficarra and John Requa's comedy-war film 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot' is slated for March 4 and the third installment 'Divergent: Allegiant' will debut on March 18.
A string of superhero films from both DC and Marvel are also slated to premiere this year. According to Collider, Tim Miller's highly viral 'Deadpool' takes the lead on Valentine's Day - February 12 while Zack Snyder's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' follows on March 25. Joe and Anthony Russo's sequel 'Captain America: Civil War' premieres on May 6 while Bryan Singer's 'X-Men: Apocalypse' follows on May 27.
David Ayer's 'Suicide Squad' debuts on August 5, Doug Liman's standalone 'Gambit' follows on October 7, and finally Scott Derrickson's 'Doctor Strange' completes the year with a November 4 release.
Reboots are set to hit the big-screen on 2016 as well, according to IMDB, Paul Feig's 'Ghostbusters' remake is scheduled to premiere in July 15 with a reimagined female ensemble spearheaded by comedian Kristen Wiig, William Wyler's classic 1959 historical drama 'Ben-Hur' will be remade for modern audiences by director Timur Bekmambetov for an August 15 release while the 1995 'Jumanji' film starring the late Robin Williams will be rebooted for a December 25 release by director Jake Kasdan.
Other box-office hits slated to be released this year include Pixar's follow-up films 'Kung Fu Panda 3' and 'Finding Dory' , 'The Jungle Book' remake, 'The Huntsman: Winter's War', 'Snowden', 'Alice Through the Looking Glass', 'Star Trek Beyond' and last but not least, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. 2016 will be a massive year for franchises, sequels, critically-acclaimed debuts as well as comic book adaptations.
