'Wonder Woman' is an upcoming adventure-fantasy film based on the DC comic book character of the same name. Chris Pine will be playing Gal Gadot's love interest Captain Steve Trevor. The actor also confirmed that the film will take place in World War I.
According to Comingsoon.net, Pine has confirmed that he will be playing the role of Wonder Woman's love interest Captain Steve Trevor in the upcoming DC standalone film. He will star opposite Gal Gadot's titular superhero in a film set in World War I.
He revealed details of his new character during an interview with the Toronto Sun. He said, "Steve Trevor is a rogue-ish, cynical realist who's seen the awful brutish nature of modern civilization... He's a worldly guy, a charming guy and it's going to be a great, fun film." He added that director Patty Jenkin's live-action adaptation of the iconic heroine will be "incredibly deep, interesting" and infused with "morally relevant themes".
Another report from the Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Warner Bros.' film will be a prequel to Wonder Woman's outing on the upcoming 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'.
Pine said of the World War I setting, "It's shot beautifully, feels so wonderfully period, but also has this wonderful pop sensibility. It's a period we don't see often; it's usually World War II. Our costume design is incredible. We have scenes with, like, 500 extras all in period dress... I've got people in deep background that have entire lives. It's awesome, it's actual make-believe land."
According to the A.V. Club, Pine's Steve Trevor originally meets Wonder Woman for the first time after he crash-lands on her island home when his military plane goes down. However, this time period was set in World War II. It is unclear if their story will play out the same way in the 'Wonder Woman' film.
The 35-year old American actor is best known for his work on several blockbuster films including the 'Star Trek' reboots, 'Rise of the Guardians' and 'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit'. He also appeared on several television shows including 'Six Feet Under', 'American Dreams', 'CSI: Miami' and 'ER'.
'Wonder Woman' is an upcoming superhero film scheduled to be released on June 23, 2017. It is directed by Patty Jenkins based on a screenplay by Jason Fuchs. It stars Pine, Gadot, Robin Wright, Lucy Davis, David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner, Danny Huston and Said Taghmaoui among others.
