'The Justice League' is a two-part superhero film intended as part of the DC shared universe. Amber Heard is in negotiations to appear in the films as well as in the 'Aquaman' standalone film as Jason Momoa's love interest. Director Zack Snyder revealed that Doomsday will be one of the featured villains.
Sources close to Heard revealed to Variety that the actress is in negotiations to play a female lead alongside Jason Momoa's Aquaman. Despite the news, Warner Bros. refused to comment. Heard may play Aquaman's love interest and eventual wife Mera and may appear in the upcoming 'The Justice League' films as well as the standalone 'Aquaman' film to be directed by James Wan.
Heard will join an ensemble cast that already includes Momoa, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill should the new deal push through.
In the comic books, Mera is the wife of Aquaman and the Queen of Atlantis. The two had a son together - Arthur Curry Jr. - who was later killed by the villainous Black Manta. She would later suffer bouts of mental instability following the death of her son.
According to Flickering Myth, the character was first introduced in 'Aquaman #11' and was created by Jack Miller and Nick Cardy. Mera is endowed with alien physiology and abilities including dimensional travel, amphibious underwater sustenance, hydrokinesis, telepathy as well as enhanced strength and endurance. She is also skilled with advanced hand-to-hand combat.
Meanwhile, director Zack Snyder revealed that the upcoming 'Justice League' films will feature the appearance of the supervillain Doomsday. He broke the news during an interview with The Daily Beast saying that the back-to-back installment may explore the mythology behind one of Superman's greatest enemies.
He said, "Well, you have Doomsday, right? He doesn't just crawl out of the ground. He has his own mythology, right? So that has to be explored..."
'The Justice League' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film based on the DC comic book superhero team-up of the same name. It is directed by Zack Snyder based on a screenplay by Chris Terrio. Part 1 of the back-to-back installment is scheduled to be released on November 17, 2017 and is currently in pre-production.
