‘Alien: Covenant’ possible locations around Australia for 2016 filming; Director Ridley Scott confirms “hard R-rating”

'Alien: Covenant' director Ridley Scott revealed that he is aiming for a "hard R-rating" for his upcoming science-fiction and thriller sequel to 'Prometheus'. He is currently in Australia and is reportedly looking for potential locations around the region for his scheduled 2016 production.

According to IGN, Ridley Scott revealed his plans of aiming for an R-Rating from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) during an interview backstage at the Golden Globe Awards. 'Alien: Covenant', otherwise known as 'Prometheus 2', is the follow-up to the planned prequel trilogy of his 'Alien' cinematic franchise. It doesn't come as a surprise as all the preceding 'Alien' films, except Paul W.S. Anderson's crossover 'Alien vs. Predator', earned R-ratings as well.

Scott said that he had "much worse" scenes in store for his upcoming science-fiction film. According to Comingsoon, he recalled previewing 'Alien' and thought about how scary the film was at that moment. He said, "I felt a sense of responsibility that I had gone too far because it was extreme. I'm going to try and do that again this year, but much worse."

The second film in the prequel trilogy will feature the return of Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender as Elizabeth Shaw and the android David, respectively. It is said to begin with a colony ship called Covenant bound for a distant planet. There, the crew and its passengers find a deserted yet dangerous world.

Katherine Waterston is the newest actress to join the cast and will portray a character named Daniels. It was previously reported that Rapace will no longer be the main protagonist and instead will occupy a minor role.

Scott has reportedly flown back to Australia after his stint at the Golden Globes and is continuing to scout around for possible filming locations for 'Alien: Covenant'. According to The Daily Telegraph, the acclaimed filmmaker arrived in Sydney on Wednesday. He revealed in a previous interview that he was going to shoot the sequel entirely in Sydney this year.

'Alien: Covenant' is an upcoming science-fiction and thriller film directed by Ridley Scott based on a screenplay by Michael Green and Jack Paglen. It is the sequel to his 2012 release 'Prometheus'. It is scheduled to be released on October 6, 2017.
