'Avengers: Infinity War' doesn't necessarily feature 67 characters despite director Joe Russo's comment in a previous interview. Joe Russo and his co-director Anthony clarified the comment saying that people should not take the number literally. They did confirm that it will be "very ambitious" in scope.
According to The Playlist, directors Joe and Anthony Russo's previous interview regarding the upcoming film may have been misconstrued by the public and they worked to remedy that.
They said, "We were being figurative when we said [67 characters] and people took it as literal, but there's a lot of characters. 'Infinity War' is meant to be the culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe up to that point. It's very ambitious in its scope, it wants to take everything that you've seen before and coalesce into some kinda of climactic ending. It's complicated, ambitious storytelling...We're not talking about lead characters, just people that make an appearance."
Joe Russo revealed during a prior interview at Wizard World New Orleans that they had a multitude of superheroes in store for the brand new addition of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
He said, "We have so many characters we're dealing with. We're breaking ground on Avengers: Infinity War... We have a board with 67 characters on it." According to /Film, it seemed far-fetched but possible enough having 67 main characters in one back-to-back comic book adaptation.
Another article by Paste Magazine noted that characters from the movies, Netflix and television shows may take a spot in the upcoming Russo brothers' films. Although no confirmations have been made just yet, there seems to be a lot of roles to fill for one of the biggest movies in the MCU. The MCU was established with crossovers between characters, plot elements, settings and even cast members throughout the franchise.
'Avengers: Infinity War' is an upcoming two-part installment directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. The two films are intended to be part of the MCU's Phase Three. Part one is scheduled to be released on May 4, 2018 while part two will premiere a year later, on May 3, 2019.
The films will star Robert Downey Jr. as Iron man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Josh Brolin as Thanos among others.
