HTC has officially confirmed that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is coming to One M8 units of AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon over the end of January via over-the-air (OTA) update. The update will come first in Canada a week prior to the release in the United States.
One M8 owners will have an extra treat of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in a matter of weeks. HTC Senior Vice President for Product Management Mo Versi took Twitter earlier today to announce the good news.
In his tweet, Versi stated that One M8 units under mobile carriers in North America will receive the update on given dates. In the US, Sprint is slated to release the new build to its One M8 units around January 20, while T-Mobile is expected to release the update to the same device on January 25.
Verizon Wireless and AT&T have not released any exact date yet, but according to HTC, the upgrade will come out on their One M8 units shortly after Sprint's and T-Mobile's.
In Canada, Marshmallow comes a little earlier to One M8. HTC confirmed that Sakstel, Rogers, Wind and Videotron will roll out the upgrade on Monday, January 18.
Unlocked versions of One M8 have already received Android 6.0 since December 2015.
Meanwhile, Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will come out with Google Now on Tap, fingerprint support, USB Type-C support, more secured Android Pay, power-saving Doze Mode, app standby, new app drawer, simpler volume controls, and security fixes. If update comes with the latest versions, these devices shall receive the new and updated set of emojis.
Marshmallow will also bring in enhanced cut, copy and paste, better app backup and restore, direct share, device switch, simpler volume controls and support for various mobile payments.
Android Pay is a card-less mobile operating system which replaces Google Wallet. It uses both NFC and host card emulation method. Chrome tabs can now be made personalized by adding web views and more customizations with theme and fonts.
