Despite it being a struggling OEM, HTC has been the most generous mobile company in providing up-to-date updates of Android 6.0 Marshmallow to its devices and responds head on to issues of its consumers. Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is reported to be released to One M8 by the second quarter of 2016, while One M9 is off to the Marshmallow launcher.
HTC has just released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to unlocked versions of the One M8 smartphone in the United States. The upgrade brought a laundry list of new features and improvements on top of the Sense 7.0 user interface.
One M8 is now slated to receive the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow version is a couple of months which might fall around April to June this year. The upgrade will bring several bug fixes and a new and updated collection of emojis. However, this will be considered a late update already as Google has already released such update to its devices this month.
This news prompts reports that Android 6.0.1 might come as early as expected. HTC has a six-month cycle for updates. Many are hoping that the latest Marshmallow version will come before April.
Meanwhile, HTC has already conducted the certification for One M9 units and will be heading very soon to the official roll out of the Marshmallow software. Some speculations underscored that the update should not come later than the 30th of January. Nevertheless, the Taiwanese has not issued any final word yet.
As for other companies, LG and Motorola are the OEMs that were able to release the official Android 6.0 Marshmallow yet. LG has released the new build to G4 and G Stylo. Motorola has started rolling it out to Moto X Pure Edition (2015), Moto X Pure Edition (2014) and Moto G (2015).
Among the mobile carriers, Sprint is the sole operator to have released the update to its devices.
