HTC has officially made available the Android 6.0 Marshmallow and partner carrier, AT&T, has a good news for those who have their One M9 and One M8 smartphones. AT&T is now on the process of certifying the new build for the devices.
AT&T has now been confirmed to have its One M9 and One M8 smartphones undergo the certification stage, a process a single step away only from the official software to be released. HTC and partner chipset manufacturers are now working out on the source code given by Google to integrate their software.
The unlocked and retail versions of One M8 have begun receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update which means release of AT&T should not be later than expected. Previous reports already stated that the first quarter sees the roll out of the update and it is most likely coming in January.
The carrier has not updated any of its devices yet to Marshmallow unlike Sprint that managed to push the build to its Motorola Moto X Pure Edition (2015), LG G4 and G Stylo G4 Stylus units amid the holiday rush.
After HTC evaluates the new version of Android's requirements and its partner chipset manufacturer determines it can be supported on the chipset, the devices are drawing closer to the final stage of the Android process.
One M9 is a 5-inch phone with 20 MP rear camera, 3 GB of RAM and a non-removable 2,840 mAh battery. One M8 is a 5-inch phone with 4 MP rear camera, 2 GB of RAM and a non-removable 2,600 mAh battery.
Both devices will receive the Marshmallow build along with its features, including Google Now on Tap, fingerprint support, USB Type-C support, more secured Android Pay, power-saving Doze Mode, app standby, new app drawer, simpler volume controls, and security fixes. If update comes with the latest versions, these devices shall receive the new and update set of emojis.
