Lenovo has unveiled its newest smartphone, the Lemon 3, in China on Wednesday to challenge its rivals in the budget friendly smartphone segment. This device comes shortly after Xiaomi released its affordable Redmi 3 smartphone on Monday.
According to Latin One, the Lenovo Lemon 3 makes a nice addition to the mid-range market, which continues to multiply every quarter at an aggressive rate. A lot of smartphone companies have come to put their money into producing more budget phones, as more buyers tend to favor this range of handsets over the flagship ones. This is reportedly Samsung's current technique, but it remains to be seen if the South Korean tech giant will put this into practice.
Furthermore, The News Independent added the Chinese tech company has launched the mid-ranger Lemon 3 at the same time Xiaomi has released its Redmi 3. With this, the Lenovo's smartphone is likely to cut away some market share from the Xiaomi devices.
Meanwhile, International Business Times made a keen comparison between the Xiaomi Redmi 3 and Lenovo Lemon 3 to see which one will top the other.
For the display and design, Xiaomi Redmi 3 sports an all-metal unibody and has a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720p) resolution display with 294ppi in 8.5mm thick and 144 grams. On the other hand, the Lenovo Lemon 3 also boasts an all-metal body with the same 5-inch display. But Lenovo beats Xiaomi in terms of screen resolution as it is armed with 1920 x 1080 pixels with 441ppi. This handset is 7.99mm thick and weighs 142 grams. With this, it is clear that Lenovo has the advantage, thanks to its higher screen resolution that creates better visuals.
When it comes to camera, Xiaomi Redmi 3 features a 13-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash five-physical lens setup, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus), and 0.1-second focusing speed. Lenovo Lemon 3 also has a similar lens, a 13-megapixel rear-facing shooter with LED flash but other specifics of the camera were unfortunately not specified. Both handsets have 5-megapixel front-snappers for selfies. Xiaomi's budget smartphone, however, has a f/2.2 aperture, face-recognition feature, and 36 intelligent self-portrait selfie styles.
Performance wise, the Xiaomi Redmi 3 and Lenovo Lemon 3 are both powered by the same octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor that is coupled with 2GB RAM and Adreno 405 GPU. Both of which are packed with 16 GB onboard storage with microSD card support.
The Lenovo Lemon 3 and Xiaomi Redmi 3 run on Android Lollipop OS, but Xiaomi uses its MIUI 7 on top of the base OS. Both of these smartphones also have support for dual SIM cards, 4G LTE and other standard connectivity options.
For the battery capacity, the Xiaomi Redmi 3 houses a 4,100mAh one while Lenovo Lemon 3 is powered by a 2,750mAh unit. Lenovo Lemon 3 is available online for ¥699 (around $107/€98/Rs 7,143), which is the same as Xiaomi Redmi 3.
Redmi 3 and Lemon 3 are available only in China. The date of the international launch, including India, is not yet confirmed as of the moment.
Both of the Lenovo Lemon 3 and Xiaomi Redmi 3 have its own edges among the other. However, as to which is which, it still depends on the needs of the buyer.
