Xiaomi is expected to unveil its newest flagship smartphone, Xiaomi Mi 5, this coming February 20. Its possible specs and features were recently revealed as alleged photos of the handset have surfaced online.
According to iDigitalTimes, the February 20 release of Xiaomi Mi 5 remarkably matches with other launches taking place around Mobile World Congress this year. The release follows Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5 which are both predicted to launch Feb. 21. However, there is no sign that the Xiaomi Mi5 will be unveiled in Barcelona.
Xiaomi has reportedly increased its production and the company has the Foxconn employees working extra time to prepare Mi5 handsets for launch which is said to commence a day after its announcement.
Android Authority cited some of the features and specs that might be present with the Xiaomi Mi 5 and first on the list is a 5.2-inch QHD display. Engineered with a Snapdragon 820 chipset, it is paired with a 4 GB of RAM and a 3,600 mAh non-removable battery. When it comes with the camera, it is expected to have a 16-MP front-facing snapper partnered with an 8-MP front-facing shooter, good for taking selfies.
TechnoBuffalo stated that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will basically start with 16GB of storage, presumably with a 64GB option as well. The device might run on the outdated Android 5.1 software, along with Xiaomi's own MiUI 7 skin.
There are new images, however, showing the Mi5 in a glass-and-metal design and in gold, black and white variety of colors. This handset is noted to be the first Xiaomi phone to sport a physical home button, where the new fingerprint reader will be placed.
There is still no concrete information when it comes to the price of Mi5, but there are conflicting reports suggesting that the company could stay as low as $320 off-contract or raise the price so it's closer to $400. Either way, it is believed to be a great deal considering the specs and features that the Xiaomi Mi 5 possess.
The release of Xiaomi Mi 5 could be a great addition to the Chinese tech giant's line-up of budget friendly handsets. However, this can only be evaluated once it hits the markets soon.
