Motorola denies rumors indicating that its lineup of Moto G and Moto E phones will be discontinued. It is said that future Motorola smartphones will have screens larger than 5", fingerprint scanners, and UI combining Android and Vibe.
It seems that reports regarding the Moto G and Moto E being pulled from the market are not true. Motorola itself denounced the rumors that arose from a statement by a Lenovo head. Tech Times reported that a Motorola representative cleared that the Moto G and Moto E will continue to stay in the market.
According to the report, statements made by Chen Xudong, Lenovo's China and Asia-Pacific division head, were misunderstood and caused confusions. "Although we are simplifying the combined Motorola and [Lenovo] portfolio, we have no plans to retire Moto G, our most successful smartphone, or Moto E," the representative from Motorola stated.
Android Police reported that Xudong revealed other rumors surrounding Lenovo and Motorola's plans in the following years. It should be noted that Xudong was the one who revealed that Google will launch Play Services in China.
Xudong claimed that future Moto smartphones will have screens not less than 5 inches diagonally. It was said that Moto phones will be classified as higher-end phones while Vibe phones will be in the lower-end segment. By increasing the size of the screens, future Moto phones will rival other smartphones and phablets in the market.
The current line of Motorola phones does not have built-in fingerprint sensors. Xudong said that this issue will be resolved with upcoming models. He said that the public can expect the next Moto phones to have native fingerprint scanners.
Xudong also said that Moto Maker will continue since he wants Moto smartphones to have their own unique styles and designs. However, he also said that there will be a few changes.
There will also be a new user interface slated for future Lenovo and Moto smartphones. 9to5Google reported that Lenovo will combine its custom Vibe UI with the pure stock Android UI currently on Moto phones. The report stated that the Vibe-Android UI combo will, hopefully, not come with too much pre-installed bloatware.
Motorola will have a new branding name, "Moto by Lenovo", combining both smartphone brands. There will be a total of 15 units that Lenovo plans to release in both Vibe and Moto lineups.
