Xiaomi released the MIUI 7.1 Global Stable Build update to particular devices via over-the-air (OTA) updates. The MIUI 7.1 build based on Android KitKat contains fixes and new features like hidden file support, new Doodle tool, and Mi Drop for sharing files.

After over two months, Xiaomi updated the first MIUI 7 build with the MIUI 7.1. The global stable build of MIUI 7.1 has started rolling out to Xiaomi devices. MIUI 7.1 is based on KitKat and is the latest software build of Xiaomi, reported Phone Arena.

Users of eligible devices will be able to download the MIUI 7.1 stable build over the air. They also have the option of flashing custom ROM to their phones to get the latest MIUI 7.1 update.

The MIUI 7.1 update brings optimizations, bug fixes, and new features to Xiaomi's user interface. The company provided a full changelog on its blog detailing the software improvements.

Xiaomi added File Explorer support for hidden folders in the MIUI 7.1 stable build update. Users can create private folders and add and restore files there. Private folders can be protected with the lockscreen security password. Users can choose to create a new password for their folders.

The MIUI 7.1 build update has a new Doodle tool for editing photos. With the Doodle feature, users can add texts and annotations on any images.

Additionally, the MIUI 7.1 update allows users to clear unused apps that take up valuable storage space in their devices. The feature can be activated by default by going to Security -> Settings -> Cleaner settings -> Clean automatically.

Another useful feature in the MIUI 7.1 build is the Mi Drop for file sharing. Mi Drop is useful for sending big files such as videos and photos to friends via a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Text can also be adjusted up to six different sizes including XS. Previous reports have stated that MIUI 7.1 update will have a data saver feature, but Xiaomi later corrected that this feature is only for the MIUI 7 global beta build. Furthermore, it is only eligible to users in Brazil, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Taiwan. Xiaomi said that the next update could have the data saver feature.

International Business Times said that the MIUI 7.1 update will be available for the following devices: Xiaomi Mi 3, Xiaomi Mi 4, Xiaomi Mi Note, Xiaomi Mi 4i, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G, Xiaomi Redmi 2, Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3G and Xiaomi Mi Pad.

Users first need to download Fastboot and Recovery before being able to get the MIUI 7.1 update. It might take a while for the update to reach all devices. Users can check if the MIUI 7.1 update is available on their devices with the Updater app.
