'Dissidia Final Fantasy' Update: Ramza and Chaos Warriors Coming Soon

By

The arcade version of Dissidia Final Fantasy has already been released since November in Japan, but aside from the gameplay changes, the roster stayed the same. But long-time fans of the franchise will be happy to know that there will be additional characters from other Final Fantasy games to be added soon, starting with the Final Fantasy Tactics protagonist, Ramza.

Back in November, a teaser was shown to a closed Dissidia conference back in April, with a short clip of what appears to be Ramza Beoulve's in-game model released in a November livestream in NicoNico. Cinema Blend notes that all but the face of the character was revealed during the livestream. Earlier this year, Square Enix Character Designer Tetsuya Nomura confirms to be redesigning the upcoming characters in their appearances in Dissidia, and had released an image of Ramza's modified design made for the game, which would be used to base his in-game model off on. Despite this, the face of Ramza's in-game model is still up for speculation due to the fact that it was hidden in the livestream.

An interview with Director Takeo Kujiraoka was published on December 28 on Famitsu (via Siliconera) that confirms that they plan on revealing characters every two months, but aside from that he has no specifics, as things are still under production. "Production on the Chaos-side of characters have already begun, so please wait a little longer for more information." he said in the interview when asked about additional characters under production.

Destructoid notes that Ramza is currently the only "non-core" (meaning not from a Final Fantasy game given a formal number) in the current roster, and that while there is no news yet of a localization or other console ports, there is a distinct possibility for a PS4 port, which seems to be expected given that the game was made with the Playtation 4 hardware in mind.

The game is currently available to play in arcades all over Japan, and features an overhauled battle system, with three-on-three combat feature, 4 combat categories for characters, and revamped mechanics based on the old battle system. Currently, a limited roster with only the Light Warriors faction can be played, but Square Enix is currently working on putting the Chaos Warriors faction into the game.
