For quite a long time, fans of Minecraft lamented the limited content of the Console editions compared to the bade PC game. But now, the Console editions of Minecraft was given a staggeringly huge update to bring it closer to the PC edition, featuring many of the items and features currently available in the base game, gameplay tweaks and improvements, a new tutorial level, plus cute little bunnies!
On December 18, 2015, Mojang posted on their official blog that the massive content and gameplay update are now going live. The blog post contains a full changelog and a trailer of the update, and lists many of the new content players of the Console editions can now avail off.
The Console edition update boasts a huge content update, featuring new blocks, new items, new mobs, and features previously only seen in the PC edition. The new blocks available include the new rock types, such as Granite, Andesite, Diorite and their Polished versions, Red Sand and Red Sandstone, Slime Blocks and Podzol. New items make its way into the game as well, like Prismarine and its byproducts, new flowers like Poppies, Tulips and Peonies, new types of fish such as Salmon and Clownfish, and armor stands. It also features new biomes such as the Mesas, Mega Taigas, Roofed Forests and Deep Ocean biomes.
Some long-requested features of the original games were also added, such as the ability to make Golems and Withers, an overhauled Enchanting system, improvements to the AIs of the Villagers and enemy mobs, the ability to ignite Creepers using Flint and Steel, Item Frames having Redstone signals, Fishing Rod Enchantments, the ability to fish out treasures with a Fishing Rod and some updated sounds. New mobs were also added, which meant that using an Ender Pearl could spawn Endermites in your location, a weird duo consisting of a Baby Zombie riding a Chicken, aptly dubbed as a Chicken Jockey, will have a chance to spawn at night, and the Deep Ocean biome now has its own special Mobs, the giant pufferfish monsters called the Guardian and Elder GUardian. Andou can even find cute little Rabbits roaming in the areas now, which you can keep as pets or kill for sustenance. The trailer for the update can be found on the blog post, or in the official Team Mojang YouTube channel.
Unfortunately, the PlayStation Vita version's update is slightly delayed, originally to a week after the initial update release. TNH Online also reports that the people over at Mojang are working hard to bring those features into the Wii U edition, but this updated version is expected to become available sometime this year.
The Minecraft Console editions can be found online in the Xbox Games Store and the Playstation Store, or in selected retail outlets. The Minecraft Wii U editions have also been released earlier in December, and is available in the Nintendo eShop and in retail.
