‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Update: Real reason why Will Smith won’t be coming back revealed

Latest film Independence Day: Resurgence is just around the corner and fans have been waiting for it since the studio announced the sequel. Now that the film's trailer has been unveiled, fans are clamouring on why the original film's Steven Hiller won't be back and therefore, Will Smith clarified some questions.

After news that Will Smith won't be returning for the film and knowing that the studio has killed Colonel Steven Hiller by death through testing the world's first alien hybrid fighter jet, Will Smith detailed some pointers on why he's not aboard the Independence Day: Resurgence movie. According to Slash Film, in an interview, the star uttered the word 'terrible' after learning that his character's fate was to be killed saying that "I'm going to be sitting around with tears in my eyes when that one comes out." More to this, fans have been wondering on why the star won't come back for the role that put him on the Hollywood list.

In response to questions like this, Will Smith clarified that he's busy with another project. In the reports of Coming Soon, Smith said "I was working on 'Suicide Squad' during that time." This made him not being able to commit since the franchise started filming last May 2015 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This would be different to earlier reports that Roland Emmerich said that the Smith just do not want to do another father-son story like After Earth. However, the 47-year old actor praised the film's latest released trailer citing it as "really cool."

To shed some light, the sequel would be about Steven's son Dylan, played by Jessie Usher, as the newest lead character in the reports of Movie News Guide. Liam Hemsworth will be in the sequel and shall fill the shoes that Will Smith has left. He will be joined by Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward.

The Independence Day: Resurgence is the sequel to the 1996 film, Independence Day which starred Will Smith as Captain Steven Hiller. Will Smith has clarified questions regarding his departure from the franchise citing that he's busy with another project specifically, Suicide Squad. Nevertheless, he still praised the upcoming film but felt terrible that the character he played was killed. Independence Day: Resurgence is scheduled to hit worldwide theaters on June 24, 2016.
