Yuneec, the rival of DJI, has created a new hexacopter under its Typhoon line-up of drones. Dubbed as the Typhoon H Drone, the device is armed with Intel's RealSense technology that is able to sense and avoid obstacles to prevent collision.
According to Engadget, Intel's CEO Brian Krzanich demonstrated the drone during the company's CES keynote. The audience watched it perfectly navigate an obstacle course and avoid a falling tree in its way. Krzanich stated that it's the first truly intelligent consumer drone. Before it has been showcased during the CES event, Yuneec has already sent it to Mexico for some real-world experience.
Furthermore, International Business Times reported the features that the Yuneec Typhoon H Drone carries. This drone has six rotors and a 360-degree gimbal camera with new CGO3+ camera (from Intel's RealSense) that is capable of 4K videos and 12MP stills. It also sports a retractable landing gear.
The Typhoon H features some new capture modes, like Point of Interest, Orbit, Curved Cable and Journey. This device is capable of detecting obstacles, thus avoiding them using its ultrasonic proximity detection. Just in case a motor failure happens, the drone will remain stable with the use of its failsafe mechanism.
Yuneec International Chief Executive Officer Yu Tian stated that they have engineered the Typhoon H to redefine what consumers should expect to pay for a drone with such a vast array of professional features. Based on the pricing, there is no other drone that can come close to the Typhoon H in terms capability and value.
The Typhoon H drone which has a modular design, makes extensive use of carbon fiber, lessening its weight. Its controller is the Android-based ST16, which sports a seven-inch integrated display and HD 720p video downlink. Some of the safety features that is part of Yuneec Typhoon H are Geo-fencing, Variable Speed Control, Dynamic Return Home, Low-Battery Return Home and FAA No Fly.
When it comes to the price, The Verge reported that the Yuneec Typhoon H Drone starts at $1,799; it seems custom-built to take on the Inspire 1.
With Yuneec releasing its new Typhoon H Drone, its main rival DJI is surely up for a competition. Interested buyers however, will have to wait until the drone hits the market shelves soon.
