CES 2016: Lenovo Yoga 900S Thinner Than MacBook Air; Specs, Features, Pricing, Release Date Detailed

By

Two days before the Consumer Electronics Show 2016, Lenovo has unveiled its Yoga 900S. This device is said to be thinner than Apple's pride, MacBook Air and is incorporated with enhanced features.

According to Gospel Herald, Lenovo released another form of its 2-in-1 laptop and tablet known as the 900S. The 900S is thinner and lighter with 2.2 pounds than the Yoga 900 which proved to be huge success for the Chinese tech company.

The 900S is also slightly smaller than before with a 12.5-inch QHD panel, as opposed to the 13-inch display of the previous year. Moreover, Lenovo claims that the Yoga 900S is the world's thinnest convertible laptop at just 0.5 inches thick. It has accomplished this weight loss with the help of some of Intel's Core M processors as well as some new carbon fiber construction.

Furthermore, Tech Times stated on its report that the Lenovo Yoga 900S weighs about half a pound less than the 2.38-pound 13-inch MacBook Air. And with its 2,560 x 1,440 resolution, the Yoga 900S has a higher pixel count compared to the 1,440 x 900 MacBook Air.

The version that runs on Windows 10, delivers up to 10.5 of hours of video playback. This is enough juice to travel between Las Vegas and London on a single charge, as stated by Lenovo.

With its 360-degree watchband hinge, the Yoga 900S can swing back and forth between being a laptop and a tablet. This also enables the Yoga 900S to shapeshift, that watchband hinge also helps give the laplet its lightweight build.

There is an unbelievable amount of design and engineering that went into creating this attractive little feature. The Lenovo Yoga 900S' design may look simple but the engineering behind it definitely is not. In fact, it took years to modify and continually refine the Yoga 900S hinge to what it is today.

It was reported that the attractive little feature is made of 813 parts that include caps, hinge cells, gear sets, rivets and brackets. Those parts work together to give the laplet its four points of articulation: tablet, tent, stand and laptop position.

Kevin Beck, PC competitive analyst for Lenovo stated "We needed something that would be able to rotate 360 degrees, while also able to lie flat when closed or in tablet mode." He also said that their team experimented with bicycle chains, tank treads and more before finally deciding on the perfect design inspiration that has pleased both the designers and engineers for a balance of form and function: the watch band.

Moreover, without the watchband hinge, the Yoga 900S wouldn't be what Lenovo defines it to be: the world's thinnest convertible notebook.

When it comes to the price and release date, Lenovo announced that the Yoga 900S 12-inch laptop starts at $1,099. This convertible device will be made available starting March, 2016.

With the Lenovo's effort of researching and testing, it has produced the Lenovo Yoga 900S, a convertible laptop that is thinner than Apple's MacBook Air. It is yet to be determined though whether the newly announced laplet is going to beat Apple's thin laptop once the 900S is released.
