Motorola Moto Turbo is one of the eight lucky devices of the brand confirmed to receive the official Android 6.0 Marshmallow via over-the-air (OTA) upgrade. All unlocked and retail versions of the device distributed by Motorola were announced on its support page for Marshmallow plans.

In spite of older smartphones being excluded from the official list, Moto Turbo was able to make it to the cut. The device has been popular for its mid-range price that is commensurate to the specs. Smartphones that were confirmed disqualified for the upgrade include the 2013 versions of Moto G, Moto X, Droid and Desire.

Moto Turbo is currently under development for the software. Testing shall follow when the device will pass the initial evaluation with regards to specs qualifications. If deemed successful, official release shall begin for the unlocked or retails versions.

Along with Moto Turbo, other Motorola devices up for the upgrade are Moto G (2014), Moto G (2014) with LTE, Moto X Style, Moto X Play, DROID Turbo, DROID Turbo 2, DROID Maxx 2 and Moto X (2014), among others. Unlocked Moto X Pure Edition (2015) and Moto G (2015) smartphones have just been updated with Marshmallow while carrier versions have yet to wait for their operators to release it.

The upgrade will come in stages through a notification message and is expected to hit the northern American region later this month. Update had already begun in Brazil and India since December 2015.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes with a new power saving feature called Doze. Google offers to help users control battery consumption.
