Motorola Moto E (2nd Generation) Android 6.0 Marshmallow Release Update

By

Motorola has officially confirmed the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade to be released to Moto E (2nd Generation) smartphones after it gained a nod from the mobile manufacturer. The update is expected to come in the first quarter of 2016.

Moto E (2nd Generation) smartphones are getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software as soon as January following the confirmation straight from Motorola. The device had just passed the evaluation of the tech company with regards to qualifications.

Although, there has been no concrete date of release yet for the software to the device, many reports pointed out that it is imminent as proved by roll outs to Moto X Pure Edition (2015), Moto X Style, and Moto G (3rd Generation). However, if the update will not happen this month it should be later in February or March.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow had also been confirmed to Moto X Play, Moto G (2nd Generation), Moto G (2nd Generation) with LTE, Droid Turbo, Moto Maxx (2014), Moto Turbo (2014), Droid Turbo 2, Droid Ultra and Droid Mini, among others. Major mobile operators in the United States still have to update their devices with Marshmallow as mentioned updated devices are only the unlocked versions.

Meanwhile, the new build was confirmed not coming to Moto E (1st Generation), Moto G (1st Generation) and Moto X (1st Generation). All of these devices were released in 2014 and 2013.

Marshmallow upgrades based on custom ROMs produced by XDA developers can also be performed if users wish to get ahead of the pack and experience first the new build.

The official software will bring in new app drawer, lock screen tweaks, and a minimalist home screen.

The new app drawer is one of the obvious changes to the user interface. Ditching the horizontal scrolling method which a Jelly Bean pioneer, Google replaces it with a vertical one. This way, the new scroll speeds up navigation to apps.

If scrolling seems to be a whole lot of a chore, the search bar indexed right on the app drawer will carry users to the specific apps. Or, simply choose among the recently apps located at the top of the drawer.
