Actor comedian Chris Rock set to host the 2016 Academy Awards looking as sharp as ever in the latest promo video released.
Just Jared has posted a 15-second clip with the 50-year-old comedian saying, "Much like New Year's Eve, it will be a night that ends with a lot of drunk, disappointed people swearing they'll do better next year." The 2016 Oscars will air on February 28 and news about the nominees thrills the web.
The Los Angeles Times has reported that Motion Picture Academy members are worried about the diversity of the acting class this year. Despite that fear, however, the entries this year are still predominantly white despite the Academy's efforts to diversify the organization.
The Academy was riddled with criticisms in 2015 when all 20 nominations for the lead and supporting categories were dominated by white actors. Neil Patrick Harris, who was last year's host, even opened the ceremony saying "Tonight we honor Hollywood's best and whitest. Sorry, brightest."
CBC Radio Canada has reported about the expensive, aggressive ads posted on large billboards, magazines, or newspapers in Hollywood coaxing the 6,000 Academy members to vote for the films released in 2015 as there are no clear frontrunners. The Danish girl, The Martian, Beasts of No Nation, and Trumbo are just some of the films plastering the words "For Your Consideration".
"Usually by this point, it's down to one or two contenders in most of the main categories. This year, most of the big ones [categories] are quite wide open at this point and so many people still feel they have a shot, that they're within striking distance and they don't want to leave anything on the table," said Academy Awards columnist Scott Feinberg.
The balloting will close on Friday and people are hopeful that the #OscarsSoWhite controversy could influence the voting.
