'Wolverine 3' is an upcoming superhero film scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017. Producer Simon Kinberg revealed that the film's script is close to completion. Leading man Hugh Jackman expressed his excitement over the new project.
During an interview with Collider, Kinberg revealed that the upcoming film's script is close to completion. When asked about the current status of the film, he said, "We're pretty close to a script that everyone's excited about, and I don't know when the start date is, but we won't start until it's ready to shoot."
Kinberg acknowledged leading man Hugh Jackman's sentiments on giving Wolverine a great exit from the series saying, "What Hugh said to you is the attitude we all have... and there are few characters in the history of cinema who have cast as big a shadow as Wolverine, so to tell the final chapter of that story, it has to be the best, and it has to have a mythic quality to it. So we have to get it right, and I think we will..." Despite not sharing more insider details on the new film, he added that the new project is something Jackman and director James Mangold are both very excited about.
Jackman is slated to reprise his role as James "Logan" Howlett a.k.a. Wolverine, one of the most popular characters in the X-Men franchise. Wolverine is a mutant who possesses keen animalistic senses, enhanced superhuman abilities and powerful healing factor. The Australian actor first debuted as Wolverine in the 2000 release 'X-Men' and has been best known for this character ever since.
According to We Got This Covered, the upcoming film will be Jackman's last portrayal as Wolverine. He has not yet officially come on board as he admitted to waiting for the screenplay to be drafted.
He said, "I don't have a start date because, we're not going to have start dates until we have that script perfect. It matters too much to me, I care too much about the character, about the audience, and when you say it's going to be your last one... I just want to leave everything on the table, absolutely everything."
The upcoming standalone film is part of the series of superhero films scheduled to be released in the next few years. According to NY Daily News, 'Wolverine' joins the lineup of several comic book live-action adaptations including 'Deadpool', 'X-Men: Apocalypse', 'Captain America: Civil War', 'Doctor Strange' and 'Gambit'.
'Wolverine 3' is a planned action-adventure film intended as Jackman's third standalone film and final outing as the fiery mutant. It will be directed by James Mangold and produced by Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner. It is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017.
