'Black Panther' is an upcoming live-action adaptation of the Marvel superhero of the same name. It will feature the debut of Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa in what is revealed as a "geo-political action adventure". Marvel chairman Kevin Feige revealed that the film links up to the next Avengers films.
According to /Film, Boseman will debut as a younger, "more fiery" version of T'Challa, ruler of the fictional nation of Wakanda, in a story that explores a whole new setting and culture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that the upcoming film will feature a "primarily African-American" cast, the first ever in the Marvel shared universe.
He said, "It's a big geopolitical action adventure that focuses on the family and royal struggle of T'Challa in Wakanda, and what it means to be a king."
Boseman will portray the first non-white Marvel superhero with his own standalone film and opens up opportunities for further cultural expansion in the MCU. 'Black Panther' will be the last film before the two-part 'Avengers: Infinity War' movies and is said to link up key points in their storylines, according to Cinema Blend. Feige announced, "T'Challa's story is very important to us as it links to the next Avengers films, which is why we brought it forward."
According to Collider, Ryan Coogler is in negotiations to direct the upcoming film. The American director and screenwriter debuted his first feature film 'Fruitvale Station' at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival where it won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award for U.S. Dramatic Film. He went on to work on the seventh film and spin-off in the Rocky series 'Creed', which one the praise of critics.
'Black Panther' is an upcoming action-adventure film intended as part of the MCU's Phase Three. It is scheduled to be released on February 16, 2018. It tells the story of T'Challa, the prince of the fictional African Nation of Wakanda, as he rises to take on the role of the powerful Black Panther after his father and king is killed.
