According to IGN, Golden Globe nominee Kurt Russell confirmed that he engaged in talks with director-writer James Gunn over a new and undisclosed role for the superhero sequel. Previous speculations suggested that he is in the running to play Star-Lord's father although this has yet to be confirmed as of the present. Russell admitted that he spoke with Gunn over the phone and nothing is official just yet.
Russell revealed that although there have been ongoing negotiations, he hasn't fully committed to the part. According to Coming Soon, he admitted that he didn't know anything about the film and that didn't realize Gunn was behind it. He added, "...So we talked to each other on the phone and I just had to be honest and say, 'Thank you for considering me, I have to read it, and I have to watch the movie because I can't bring anything for you. I've got nothing to offer here.' So, I'm amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do."
The 64-year old actor is set to star as John "The Hangman" Ruth in Quentin Tarantino's latest Western 'The Hateful Eight'. He is part of the ensemble cast consisting of Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir and Tim Roth.
