Moto G (Gen 3) Starts Receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update

By

Motorola has been rolling out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to its devices. Recently, the Moto G 3rd Generation has received the newest operating system by Google.

Christian Today reported that when Motorola set its schedule for the Android Marshmallow release back in October, the first ones scheduled to obtain were the premium flagships. Now that the Moto X series has already received the Android 6.0 update, users of the third-gen Moto G reported getting over-the-air update notifications on their handsets.

According to the site, the Android M over-the-air notifications were released to the unlocked SIM-free versions of the Moto G 2015 (model XT1540) in the U.S. and Canada. Based on the screenshots of the update notification, the Android M update came in as a 2-GB download, and the software version was updated to 24.11.25.en.US.

Furthermore, NDTV Gadgets reported that the Motorola Moto G (Gen 3) that has been launched in India in July this year obtains all the new features included in Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The newest update from Google brings features such as restored app permissions, Google Now on Tap feature, Android Pay mobile payment system, and new fingerprint APIs for developers among others. This upgrade features some security patches as well.

While Motorola is announcing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update plans, the company listed Moto-specific enhancements that users will perceive after updating to the new Android OS version. Some developments to Moto enhancements include removal of Moto Assist feature as part of upgrade to Android M.

The company also clarified that the latest OS includes an option for Do Not Disturb under the Sound and notification settings that performs same function what Moto Assist does.

Jewocity added that smartphone enthusiasts are expecting the update to start rolling out in more regions over the next few days. Hopefully, the carrier branded Moto G (2015) units will also receive the update sometime early next year.

The update is now rolling out to Moto G (Gen 3) users in US and Canada.Earlier this month, the company announced that it will be seeding the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to its Moto E (Gen 2) devices as well, but only in selected areas.
