Texas carried its first execution of 2013 on Thursday in Huntsville, putting Carl Henry Blue to death for setting his then-girlfriend on fire almost 20 years ago. He died by lethal injection. In Georgia, Andrew Allen Cook was executed, convicted of fatally shooting two university students in 1995.
Beatrice Munyenyezi, a Rwandan woman living in New Hampshire, was convicted on Thursday of lying about her role in the 1994 Rwanda genocide, as a way to obtain U.S. citizenship. She now could be sent back to her native country.
A South African court granted Oscar Pistorius bail on Friday, after his defense lawyers argued he was too famous to pose a flight risk. The court set bail was at 1 million rand, or $113,000.
