"Happy New Year" Movie set for release this October; Actor Shahrukh Khan shares hopes that film brings happiness to its audience during Diwali

The highly anticipated Bollywood movie "Happy New Year" is finally set to premiere in theaters this October.

Directed by Farah Khan, the movie will tell a story about a gang of five Indians plotting to pull off a daring stunt on New Year.

Their mission is to bring together people who are considered as "losers" from different parts of the world, each having their individual area of expertise. They will be part of the gang's plan in pulling off the "world's great heist."

The comedic film will feature Bollywood stars Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. According to Fashion & Style, Shahrukh will be playing the character of Charlie, a computer hacker who will serve as the brain of the gang's operation. Padukone, on the other hand, will be portraying the role of a dancer, Mohini, who is considered as one of the boys.

Although the two were known for their on-screen romantic tandem, "Happy New Year" will be veering away from that.

The site reported that their romantic chemistry will be toned down in the movie as Shahrukh wanted the heist to be the main focus of the movie and not them. A slight admiration between their two characters will just be hinted.

Starring alongside Shahrukh and Padukone will be Abhishek Bachchan as Nandu, Sonu Sood as Jag, a muscular jock, and Vivaan Shah as Rohan, a tech geek.

Meanwhile, IBN Live reported that Shahrukh spoke of his hopes for the movie to bring happiness to its audience, especially that it will be released during the Diwali holiday.

"This is a quintessential Bollywood film and on Diwali, everyone wants to feel happy and celebrated. I hope this one brings some cheers to them," said Khan.

Plans for the upcoming movie started way back in 2005, but was bumped off to make way for "Om Shanti Om" which starred the same lead actors.

"Happy New Year" is scheduled to hit theaters this October 24.
