"True Detective" Season 2: Sequel to introduce new characters in a new California setting; Multiple directors to work on the show

HBO's police detective series "True Detective" is set to return on television with new thrills as it will welcome new characters on board with its new setting.

Screenrant reports that "True Detective" Season 2 will be introducing a new story, directors, characters, and setting. The site added that the show will be featuring a true anthology structure, moving away from the narrative that was in its first season. Showrunner Nic Pizzolatto confirmed these in a series of public interviews he did about the show.

In an interview with Buzzfeed, spilled hints on the upcoming season, including the idea that they would be working with several directors.

"We don't have any plans to work with one director again. It would be impossible to do this yearly as we need to be able to do post while we're still filming, like any other show. There's some great guys I've consulted, and we're all confident we can achieve the same consistency," shared Pizzolatto.

Meanwhile, MTV reports that Pizzolatto revealed about the new setting for the show in a separate interview with public radio program "To the Best of our Knowledge."

"Right now, we're working with three leads. It takes place in California - not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser known venues of California - and we're going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in season one," Pizzolatto said.

He continued, "The characters are all new, but I'm deeply in love with each of them. We've got the entire series broken out with a couple of scripts, and we'll probably start casting in earnest in the coming months."

With the news of new characters, it makes sense that lead actors Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will no longer be coming back to reprise their roles as Rust Cohle and Marty Hart, respectively.
