Just a week after its release, "Guardians of the Galaxy" had already earned more than $94 million as fans flocked to movie houses to watch the new superheroes of Marvel.
Although the film has not yet finished its run on cinemas, another treat is coming as a sequel to the blockbuster hit is already being prepared.
According to KpopStars, director James Gunn has confirmed the news during the Comic-Con 2014. He and lead star Chris Pratt announced during the event that "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will be release on July 28, 2017.
The director also posted about the confirmation of the sequel on Twitter.
"Yes, I'm writing and directing the sequel to #GuardiansoftheGalaxy ... But first go see the first one out next week!" read the tweet.
Pratt, on the other hand, also expressed his interest of reprising his role as Star-Lord for the second film. According to the site, Pratt told MTV's Josh Horowitz at the Movie Awards his hopes of playing the character for a long time.
"I hope people really like it, and I hope I get to play that character for a very long time. I think Marvel's been very smart about projecting into the future and what they're putting on their slate. It's based on what people like, so we'll put this movie out there and see how people react to it. Who knows?" said the actor.
Meanwhile, Marvel Head Kevin Feige shared to IGN some of the possible answers to the questions left hanging in the "Guardians of the Galaxy," showing probable scenarios for the next film.
According to Feige, there is a possibility that Karen Gillan's Nebula character will return.
"I would say any character that doesn't overtly perish is certainly fair game to come back. If people know the comic lore, Nebula has a lot of varying different roles to play over the course of a lot of different titles in the comics. We have somebody like Karen, and you have a look that is so weird and so great. I think that's something we'd all like to see again," conceded Feige.
He also spilled that Peter Quill's parentage will be revealed in a coming Marvel movie, but did not specify if it will be in the "Guardians of the Galaxy 2."
Though the second sequel is still in its early stages of production, fans are already expecting for the "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" to become a big hit as did the first movie.
