Nickelodeon debuts official ‘The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water‘ trailer [Video]

Nickelodeon has recently unveiled the official trailer of the film featuring the main characters SpongeBob (Tom Kenny), Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke) Sandy Cheeks (Carolyn Lawrence), Squidward (Rodger Bumpass), Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown), and Plankton (Douglas Lawrence). The teaser also revealed Antonio Banderas as the newest addition to the film who will breathe life to a villain pirate character.

In "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water," SpongeBob and his merry gang will embark in an action-packed adventure outside of their beloved Bikini Bottom to "save their world" after the attack by Banderas's character, Yahoo UK reported. The promo clip also showed former "Guns N' Roses" guitarist Slash, who will appear in a cameo role in the movie.

Although the first part of the trailer showed the cast in their 2D animated forms, the popular characters of Bikini Bottom will eventually transform into full 3D CGI-animated forms of themselves as they get out of the water, and will actually nteract with real people in the film. Speaking of transformation, SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs will all undergo drastic makeovers and will turn into hunky hero stereotypes. This is clearly something that kids and kids-at-heart can definitely look forward to in the upcoming "SpongeBob" movie.

Renowned screenwriters Glenn Berger and Jonathan Aibel, the brilliant minds behind animated movies "Kung Fu Panda," "Monsters VS Aliens," and "Alvin and the Chipmunks," penned the screenplay for the movie, Fashion & Style reported.

The producers of the "SpongeBob" sequel are clearly banking on the show's success in television and its first movie. The first one released in 2004, "The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie," was a huge success, as it earned a whopping $140 million worldwide.

Under the direction of Paul Tabbit, "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water " will hit theaters on February 6, 2015.
