‘Survivor: San Juan Del Sur’ to premiere in a 90-min long pilot episode; Castaways to compete against loved ones in ‘Blood VS Water’

CBS's long-standing reality show "Survivor" is set to make a resounding comeback for its 29th season this coming September.

CBS recently shared an official press release regarding the series's Season 29 entitled "Survivor: San Juan Del Sur," Enstarz reported. According to the press release, the upcoming new season will be aired in a 90-minute premiere, featuring the return of the popular "Blood VS Water" concept. With this theme, a lot of drama is expected to unfold, as the castaways will be coerced to play against their loved ones.

The show first introduced the "Blood VS Water" format during the 27th installment of the competition series, told Entertainment Weekly. Each contestant will have to bring a loved one, whom they will either play with or compete against in the duration of the show. Due to insistent public demand, the reality series will bring the said format in its upcoming Season 29.

Host Jeff Probst himself told the outlet that the producers of the show decided to bring back the concept after fans have showed an enormous clamor for it.

"We really listened to people saying, 'Oh my gosh, we love new players again. This is so fresh and it feels so good,'" said Probst. "And we went down the road with a couple of different ways to do Blood vs. Water, and we started casting it, and started finding really good people, and then more good people, and then it became a very easy decision to go with a completely new cast. "

Probst also said that with new, unfamiliar faces this coming season, it will serve as a challenge for the show to make instant connection with the viewers.

"Since it is all new people you need to find a way to bond them quickly so that the audience knows, 'Oh, okay, that's the father and that's the son,'' the host noted. "And we do have something out of the gate that will help with that a little bit. We just have to do a very good job in how we tell those stories, when you cut from one person on one beach, then cut to their significant other on the other beach. And you just slowly start pairing them together."

Meanwhile, the 52-year-old veteran host confirmed that Redemption Island will no longer be featured in the upcoming season, survivorfandom.com said. However, although the eliminated contenders will have no chance of getting back to the game, Enstarz said that a new twist will be revealed that "involves a Redemption Island type of area."

"Survivor: San Juan Del Sur" will once again highlight the pristine islands of Nicaragua as the show is set to premiere on September 24, Wednesday, on CBS.
