While "RuPaul's Drag Race" is currently on a season hiatus, the show's host RuPaul himself will join the cast of Game Show's reality series "Skin Wars" as a new judge, Enstarz reported.
In an interview with Las Vegas Weekly, Robin Barcus Slonina, producer and resident judge of the show and the owner of Skin City Body Painting, commended RuPaul's unique artistry as a professional drag queen. She said that despite not having a lot of experience in body painting, RuPaul is fitting to be a judge on the show given his extensive expertise in make-up.
"He doesn't have a lot of experience in body paint, but that man knows makeup," Slonina explained. "The way that drag queens change their faces and their face shapes with highlights, shadows, contouring, that's a whole art in itself."
Slonina even hailed RuPaul as a "master of transformation" in admiration for the legendary drag queen's capabilities to transform himself to whatever way he wants through make-up.
"You can chisel your face, you change the shape of your nose, and the shape of your chin and the shape of your brow all with makeup and so it's a very logical fit," Slonina noted. "He is a master of transformation himself."
The 43-year-old contemporary artist also expressed her delight working with the renowned host and recording artist as a fellow judge in "Skin Wars."
"Ru is a consummate professional, he's everything you would imagine him to be. He is polite. He is professional and he is funny. He just kept us cracking up," said Slonina.
Meanwhile, citing another report from Enstarz, Michelle Visage, resident judge of "RuPaul's Drag Race" and a close friend of RuPaul himself, spoke up about the discrimination issues that the show confronts after airing a controversial episode in Season 6.
It could be recalled that the show's sixth season aired an episode featuring a challenge called "Female or She-Male." The contestants were asked to identify the gender of a particular person through close-up shots of their body parts. The challenge reaped a lot of negative criticisms all over the internet, saying that the activity was discriminating against the transgender community.
In defense of the show, Visage clarified the issues that the show is facing to Gay Star News saying, "As a community we've been fighting for equality, we want to be viewed as equal."
"I might not feel the same about the same things as a trans person does. Discrimination is disgusting, and people will discriminate long after anyone remembers the controversy even existed," she added.
"RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 7 will hit the airwaves on February 2015 exclusively on Logo TV.
