'Winds Of Winter' release date: George R.R. Martin hands-off on 'Game of Thrones'? Author still working on next book

While fans of "Game of Thrones" are still probably reeling in from the events of Season 4, an update on the sixth installment of "A Song of Ice and Fire", which is the "Winds of Winter" release date, is most certainly welcome.

As for the fifth season of the HBO television series hit, what is clear is that Martin will not be writing a script for season five, Vulture reported.

As customary in the previous seasons, Martin writes at least one episode. However, the author has confirmed that he will be less involved with the production of Season 5. He told Vulture about not writing a script for the upcoming season, "Not this year, no - once again because I have this book to finish."

There has been much speculation as to when the sixth book in Martin's fantasy novel series will come out. But according to the International Digital Times, "Winds of Winter" might not be released in time before the next season of the HBO hit television series, which is inspired by the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. This means, as the news outlet said, book readers will be able to read the plot of the upcoming season as the show unfolds its story on the small screen.

Talk about whether Martin will be able to finish the novel due to his writing pace, age, and health, has perhaps reached breaking point when Martin reacted passionately in an interview with Swiss newspaper Tagesanzeiger. In the interview, Martin was quoted as saying, "I find that question pretty offensive, people speculating about my death and my health. So f*** you to those people."

The author even raised his middle finger to get his point across. Watch the video here.

In an interview last year with Mashable, Martin was still calm about the fan panic surrounding the book release. He said then, "I try not to pay attention to any of that; 99% of my fans are fabulous. No book pleases everybody and no timetable pleases everybody. The fact that there are people looking forward to the book is a nice problem to have. It's all good."
