Why 'Legend of Korra' Season 3 Should Not Have Debuted On Nickelodeon Yet

By

The latest season of the "Legend of Korra" returned to Nickelodeon on Friday, June 27. The The beloved fantasy series was made available by the children's network with limited commercial interruption on its official website a day after the episodes were aired, and the episodes are available for purchased via iTunes or Amazon Instant Video real soon, Latin Times reported.

If you are still catching up on the adventures of Team Avatar, episodes 1, 2 and 3 shows events after the Harmonic Convergence. IGN said that in "A Breath of Fresh Air" episode, Avatar Korra learned that her decision to leave the spirit portals open had unexpected consequences. Airbenders have been popping up suddenly across all Air, Water, Earth and Fire nations, and wild spirit vines have overgrown Republic City. "Rebirth of a Nation" took Korra, Tenzin and Team Avatar on a new mission to search for new Airbenders in order recruit them and rebuild their once-dead Air Nation as a band of criminals have organized to hunt them down.

TV Guide's synopsis for the brand-new episode "The Earth Queen" read, "The team look for Airbenders on a trip to Ba Sing Se."

Although the earlier-than expected premiere was a blessing to eager fans of the animated series, Forbes said it was a strategy taken by Nickelodeon to regain control of its own content when a Mexican unit of theirs had leaked four mid-season episodes on the Internet as they are working on dubbing and subtitling the episodes for the region. As details of the new season remained unclear, and that a fan-made trailer appeared online and gained viral status immediately, Nickelodeon decided to release an official trailer. A week before, the children's network caught fans by surprise by moving its original release to a new date to this Friday and take a July 4th break before resuming the next set of episodes after that.

Forbes said that given the short gap in between the first three episodes of the season to the succeeding ones and the lack of marketing to announce the debut of the latest installment of "Legend of Korra," Nickelodeon might have relied too much on the power of Internet and decided to proceed with apparently half-baked decisions without thinking its financial implications.
