After the official announcement of the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" reboot, reports are now spreading on actors who would be tapped to play in the movie.
"Carrie" star Chloe Grace Moretz and "Hunger Games" actor Liam Hemsworth are reportedly starring as the Pink Ranger and Red Ranger, respectively. Both celebrities have done roles for some action movies in the past. Considering this, they just might be perfect for the Ranger characters.
Moretz was known for her role as Hit-Girl in the "Kick-Ass" movie series. According to her IMDB profile, she trained with Jackie Chan's stunt crew for three months before filming the movie. She also did majority of her own stunts for the said film and its sequel.
Although her role in "Kick-Ass" gained some controversy, she was able to received widespread critical acclaim for her portrayal. It will definitely not come as a surprise if she shifts from her violet Hit-Girl character costume to the Pink Ranger suit. KPopstarz cited reports, which said that the young actress has already accepted the offer of Lionsgate and is already excited to play Kimberly Hart in the movie.
Hemsworth, on the other hand, is noted for his role as the rebellious Gale Hawthorne in the film series "Hunger Games." After this, he was able to nab a number of roles including a supporting part in "The Expendables 2." His action stints in previous films seemed to have made him a good candidate for the leader of the superhero pack.
However, the "Hunger Games" actor may be in tough competition as reports suggested that Taylor Lautner and Tom Hiddleston are also eyed as the Red Ranger. Both actors are also noted for their action roles in "Twilight" and "Thor" respectively.
Meanwhile, Lionsgate has revealed its plan on the reboot of the 1990's children's classic. The movie, said the film studio, is set to re-visualize the story of a group of high school kids who had been awarded with unique and cool super powers. The teenagers, however, must harness and use such powers as a team to save the world.
"With an extensive and extremely devoted worldwide fan base as well as a deep and detailed mythology, the Power Rangers are primed for the big screen," added Lionsgate.
Although no official announcement has been made on the release date of the movie, the new "Mighty Morphin Power Ranger" is said to hit theaters in April 2015.
