The New York Daily News received exclusive information from sources, who said that a homeless man appeared to be unhinged and is armed with a knife tried to enter the "Good Morning America" set in Times Square Tuesday morning. The homeless man also later announced that he wanted to kill "Live! with Kelly and Michael" host Michael Strahan.
Authorities have confirmed that security men who have accosted 25 year-old Andre Johnson told the latter to take a hike when he first demanded to see the Hall of Famer-turned-TV darling. However, Johnson returned to the set again with a knife and attempted to stab a security guard with his blade. Officials said Johnson was quickly rebuffed and arrested by cops.
Law enforcement sources have said that when Johnson was taken to the Midtown South stationhouse, he told investigators processing him his plans to kill the retired football player. Johnson was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing, officials have added.
Johnson's appearance on the "GMA" set was not misguided. Daily News said Strahan is currently working part-time on GMA while co-hosting his own show with Kelly Ripa. Officials confirmed that Strahan has never encountered Johnson throughout the incident and was not hurt.
There is no word what Johnson's vendetta against the former Giants star. However, his motives might be later revealed as insiders claimed that the suspect will be subject to a pending a psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
Senior vice president Jeffrey Schneider of ABC News said, "We are incredibly indebted to the heroic and fast-acting police officer who swiftly took down the suspect in Times Square."
Strahan himself has yet to issue a statement regarding the homeless man's death threat against hin. On the other hand, Fox Sports said Strahan might have other things to mind apart from his blossoming career in television as he is due to be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame next month.
