Egan drops sexual assault case against ex-Disney executive, will continue to pursue Singer, others

By

On Wednesday, Buzzfeed reported that former actor Michael Egan, has dropped sexual assault civil complaints against former Disney executive David Neuman. Egan gained notoriety after he revealed the many alleged sexual transgressions involving underage boys supposedly by "X-Men" director Bryan Singer and other Hollywood executives.

In April, Egan have filed the civil complaints against Neuman, Singer and two other Hollywood executives in Hawaii. According to the complaints, the entertainment moguls have sexually abused him when he was underage in 1999. All defendants have disputed any wrongdoing and subsequently filed motions to dismiss Egan's lawsuits.

Buzzfeed said that Egan's voluntary dismissal of his civil complaint against Neuman followed when the viral news site discovered several inconsistencies with his current complaints and the testimony he provided for a similar sexual assault that was filed in 2000 in California. In his original sexual assault lawsuit, Singer's and Neuman's names were conspicuously absent, and instead named registered sex offender Marc Collins-Rector and two of his business partners as the perpetrators.

In Neuman's motion to dismiss, he cited a declaration from the old lawsuit in which his accuser have said that he had never had any kind of physical contact with the ex-Disney executive. Moreover, Neuman also highlighted part of Egan's testimony, where the latter said that the defendant never acted improperly against him.

Attorney Patricia Glaser for Neuman said about the dismissal, "In as much as we celebrate the truth this evening, we will hold accountable those who wrongly created the hurt and damage by making outrageous, untruthful assertions that cannot be undone. We question seriously the underlying prejudices and motives in targeting David Neuman with this groundless and defamatory action. Today's dismissal exposes this despicable lawsuit for what it really was: an unethical smearing and failed shakedown of a completely innocent man."

On the other hand, Buzzfeed said Egan's dismissal of his charges against Neuman comes without prejudice, which means that the former actor could sue the executive again in the future.
