Buzzfeed has obtained email exchanges allegedly made between Michael Egan and digital entrepreneur Chad Shackley, whom he accused along with "X-Men" director Bryan Singer and other Hollywood executives, of sexual abuse that presented a different angle to the story. The emails, which reportedly came from a longtime associate of Egan's, who remained unnamed, might polarize the public's view on the aspiring actor.
The 62 emails, which were said to be exchanged between April 1999 and April 2000, showed how Egan had made an effort to carry out a friendly correspondence with Shackley. Majority of the time, Egan has asked repeatedly when he would bee seeing Shackley again, and even requested a loan fore a business venture. Some of the emails documented Egan's offer to Shackley to move in with him and two other men overseas. An email exchange also documented how Egan was willing to participate in social gatherings that took place in the entrepreneur's mansion in California, in which Egan has named as the place where he was supposedly abused by Singer and others.
Egan's lawyer, Jeff Herman, maintained on Tuesday that the email exchanges only proved that his client displayed typical behaviors of sexual assault victims. He added, "The emails are consistent with compliant victims, especially those who have been abused through a period of time, who have been groomed and drugged and threatened. It's hard for people to understand why victims keep coming back or seem willing to participate, but this is an example of the complexity of sexual assault."
In an earlier case Egan and two other plaintiffs have filed against Shackley, Marc Collins-Rector and Brock Pierce, the former received $4.5 million in award in a default judgement, the viral news site said. Collins-Rector was found guilty for transporting minors across state lines in a New Jersey federal court. Pierce, on the other hand, was no longer pursued on the account that all charges against him were dropped.
CTV News reported that the trial for the dismissal of the 2014 lawsuit against Singer has been set to July 7 at a Hawaiian federal court.
