The Korean tech giant intends to sell the recalled Samsung Galaxy Note 7 as refurbished phones anytime soon. The devices will be sold in new cases and with smaller battery capacities. This move intends to partially recover from the losses incurred with the fiasco and to help with the trouble of junking over the unused and returned phones.
Samsung had a major loss of billions of dollars due with the trouble of recollecting the almost 2.5 million units of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 across the world - mainly from United States and Europe. Aside from that, its steps to make the consumers trust its products again seem to have been a challenge as their sales have steadily went down for a few months since the "exploding phones" branding.
According to Engadget, the refurbished Samsung Galaxy Note 7 units will most likely be sold in Vietnam and India. Samsung may decide not to resell the products in the US or European markets because of the damaged trust factor it already impressed on the consumers. The batteries were replaced with capacities of 3000 mAh to 3200 mAh instead of the original 3500 mAh.
Investigations conducted by internal and independent experts found that the problem is caused by the batteries, ruling out other hardware and software causes. The manufacturing defects which came from two battery suppliers rooted from design flaws which caused the short circuits. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fiasco is considered to be among the biggest tech failures in history, Reuters reported.
However, the tech giant does not intend to point fingers to any of the manufacturers, and will still work with them for the next flagship release after Samsung Galaxy Note 7. For its next device, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8, the tech-giant will be conducting an eight-point battery check system to make sure that the same problem won't happen again.
As the refurbished Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be prepared to be sold on other markets, the next flagship device - the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is expected to be released on April in the US and European markets. By that time then, Samsung will see if it is able to vindicate itself from the damaged reputation the exploding batteries caused.
