United States Ninth Federal Court of Appeals started hearing on the temporary immigration ban from President Trump on Tuesday, Feb. 7. The legal representatives from two states, Minnesota and Washington, stated their argument objecting the executive order.
The executive order was under scrutiny by a panel of three judges from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday as reported by Reuters. The judges questioned the government lawyer for the allegation that President Trump in his executive order on immigration ban unfairly targeted people over their religion from the seven countries.
Judges also asked the tough question to legal representatives from the states of Minnesota and Washington that challenged the temporary immigration ban. One of the judge Richard Clifton asked the lawyers from two states whether the judge suspension of President Trump policy in Seatle was disproportionate.
The hearing went for more than one hour. Afterward, judges of the appeal court judge said to issue the ruling as soon as possible.
Previously, federal district judges in Minnesota and Washington states blocked the reinforcement of Presiden Trump’s temporary immigration ban from citizens of seven countries in their respective jurisdiction. The opponent of the executive order, including the two states argued that the order was targeting people based on their religion.
Judge James Robart from the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington issued an order to block the executive order in the state of Washington. Judge Robart argued that implementing the immigration ban will make the states to “suffer irreparable harm in the absence of preliminary relief.”
However, Judge Robart did not elaborate more details on irreparable harm which caused by the executive orders of immigration ban.
President Trump administration formally made an appeal on Saturday night as reported by USA Today. The federal administration files an appeal to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Fransisco, California which deemed to be the most liberal.
