After Johnny Depp sued his former business managers, the latter is now blaming the actor for bringing on his financial problems himself. Last month, the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie franchise star filed a lawsuit against his former business team at The Management Group (TMG), suing them for $25 million.
In response, TMG has filed a cross-complaint, stating that Depp lived “ultra-extravagant lifestyle that often knowingly cost Depp in excess of $2 million per month to maintain, which he simply could not afford.” Depp’s lawyers first claimed that TMG mishandled the 53-year-old actor’s money, particularly tens of millions of dollars. Consequently, he was obliged to get rid of “significant assets” only to pay for his former business managers’ fraud and gross misconduct.
As such, Depp is requesting for over $25 million in a lawsuit accusing TMG of fraud and professional negligence as well as breach of contract.
On the other hand, TMG has filed a counter lawsuit, as obtained People. The management firm is requesting for the ‘Black Mass’ actor to pay for over $560,000 in credit card fees and commissions that supposedly remain unpaid. Moreover, TMG is also requesting for a court declaration that its group has already obliged to all its fiduciary duties and that Depp remains accountable for his financial loss.
The actor’s former managers handed in court papers claiming that they constantly reminded him of spending too much, and gave him a clear pre-nup warning prior to his marriage to Amber Heard that had cost him a $7 million divorce settlement.
Business Insider also reported on the actor's extremely lavish lifestyle. Some of Depp’s expenses that were stated in the complaint included 14 residences worth over $75 million, purchase and renovation of a 150-foot luxury yacht worth $18 million, purchase of expensive wines with a monthly budget of $30,000, tens of millions for a “massive and extremely expensive art collection,” and 45 luxury vehicles with no amount stated, among others.
