Amy Schumer Defends Cousin Senator Chuck Schumer Amid Donald Trump's "Fake Tears" Claim

Amy Schumer has expressed her disapproval over President Donald Trump’s claim that New York Senator Chuck Schumer showed “fake tears” when he criticized the new executive order temporarily restricting immigrants and refugees from a number of Muslim-majority nations to enter the United States. Amy described the senator, who is her cousin, as a “transparent” and “genuine” individual. She also referred to Trump’s policies as “awful decisions.”

“This is what he was thinking about at 621am,” the ‘Trainwreck’ actress wrote as caption for a screenshot of Trump’s post on Twitter. “This was his tweet after his first soldier died. Also 8 Yemeni women and 7 children died and trump called the raid ‘successful’ Also I know chuck Schumer and HE CANNOT act, trust me. He can barely smile on cue.” Amy further explained that Senator Schumer truly felt pity for the people who are faced with unlawful and unfair practices.

On Friday, Time reported Trump's signing of an executive order that puts a temporary ban on citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries, restricting them from coming in to the U.S. Such move is seen by the administration as an attempt to stop “terrorist attacks by foreign nationals.” In her lengthy post on Instagram, Amy further spoke out against the president’s other policies, including his “terrifying” Supreme Court choices as well as a possible ban on same-sex adoption.

The ‘Inside Amy Schumer’ star concluded her post by calling out to her followers to stand up for their rights, avoid distractions, and remain focused. “We need to fight this now and together,” she said. “Call congress. Call the senate. We need to wake up and rise up together. People need our help.”

Amy joins a long list of celebrities who have protested against Trump and his anti-Muslim immigration ban. According to Business Insider’s report, Sarah Paulson, Ashton Kutcher, Taraji Henson, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus were only a few of the stars who have spoken out against the “unconstitutional” and “racist” immigration ban at the recently concluded SAG Awards.
