Nintendo NES Classic Edition Available In GameStop Starting This Week

At the start of the new year, most if not all people have a mindset of moving forward and wanting to see what the world will offer this year. Many of us expect new technology, new discoveries in science, and new beginnings for which many paths have ended. A lot of us expect the opportunities we missed out on last year to be present in this year. In a sense, it's like a minor reset; A new year, a new you. But then again, a lot of people lately have been more interested in remembering the past, the "good old days", if you may. This has not been unheard, and many companies in marketing are pandering to this desire. The swell of nostalgia stirs great feelings in many of us and the market listens. Nintendo is no different.

Polygon claims that during this week, GameStop will be once again lining their shelves with a true old school relic, the NES Classic. For this week, the stores will be selling Nintendo's very first console that they ever made. The console takes its consumers back to a time where video games were just 8-bit achievements, where things were pixelated and difficult to understand or wrap your head around. During this era, gaming wasn't completely defined and rules were not clear. It was a time where you had to read the instruction manual to actually figure out what the controls were. Everything was blocky and awkward and some games didn't even feel right, but during this time you didn't have the internet, so how could anyone know if a game was good or bad? None of us did, but exploring was half the fun, and Nintendo's releases set down a solid standard of what games should be like, with a purpose, a struggle, and a reward.

According to Game Spot, the NES Classic is not a complete replica of the NES of old, but rather a miniaturized version packed with 30 of the NES's most memorable and enjoyable titles. Though you're unable to add games, some hardcore fans out there found a way via USB. With the NES classic, retro gaming comes back into the minds and hearts of our most experienced gamers and acts as a new way to introduce retro gaming to the younger gamers out there. When we think of the past, we like to think of how different it was back then, but we should always remember that if there's anything to get from looking back at past eras, it's learning from them and applying it to building your future.
